I tried installing touchegg and all I get is
Code:

Segmentation fault (core dumped)

When I tried compiling I got something like Error 1, but I don't know what that means.

[ubuntu] Is it possible to restore win7/8 with its appropriate drivers etc?

Hi, I know it's may be not about ubuntu, but i felt that I could not put the post anywhere else.
However, I was thinking about getting a gaming laptop so I can start playing serious games and create games, but since they are overpriced and extra-featured(3d, video graphics, sound graphics etc), I am a bit scared if I try to triple boot (if it's ever possible to do that!!!!!) on the laptop and it crashes and looses all imporatant software part. So, is it possible for windows to identify appropriate drivers for all them extra features as well as fundamental one?

[64 bit] Ubuntu 64 Kernel Panic on New Installation

Hi!

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 12.04.02-amd64 on an Acer Aspire

I followed all the instructions from this post: help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI

I installed as usual. First problem was that Windows do not appear in the grub list. I do not tried to run Ubuntu, but boot from USB to repair the windows issue.

I run boot-repair following the instructions from this post: help.ubuntu/community/Boot-Repair

After that, windows appears in the grub list, and runs normally. Then I tried to run Ubuntu, and the screen just keeped black and nothing happends. I tried the safe mode, and the log ended with this:

Kernel Panic - not syncing: No init found. Try passing init= to kernel

I've searched about this kind of errors, but all of them appear when changing something in te system, not a clean installation, so I was not sure of trying any of the recomendations.

Here is the link that boot-repair gave me: http://paste.ubuntu.com/5726048/

Hi! I have a problem with installation of glut
I've tried many different commands such as: yum install freeglut-devel, sudo apt-get install freeglut3-dev and it is not working. When I do it like here: http://freeglut.sourceforge.net/docs/install.php it does not work either.
When I use commands: sudo apt-get install freeglut3 freeglut3-dev, sudo apt-get install binutils-gold , it tells me that it is installed but when I try to compile a program it tells me that it cannot find glut.h and shows many many errors. I have no idea what I should do and what is wrong. I would be reaaaaally grateful if you could help me.

Hi guys,

I'm trying to install Ubuntu server 12.10 in an HP ML110 G5 with a RAID 1 logical drive (using the on board SATA Raid controller). Ubuntu doesn't seem to recognize the RAID array. Does anyone had this problem or knows how to overcome this issue?

Thank you.

[ubuntu] Update Script freezes on removal of cups-pdf

So I'm in the middle of upgrading Ubuntu versions using the distribution upgrade gui -- things going fine -- until the clean up stage. I'm prompted to remove like 54 packages. I peruse the names of the packages and they all seem reasonable to remove and I click accept. The second package the script tries to remove cups-pdf -- it appears the script is stuck on. Does cups-pdf run as a service? Is it waiting for the service to be stopped?

This could also happen if the file system is not clean because of an operating
system crash, an interrupted boot process, an improper shutdown, or unplugging
of a removable device without first unmouting or ejecting it. To fix this,
simple reboot into Windows let it fully start, log in, run 'chkdsk /r', then
gracefully shutdown and reboot back into Windows. After this you should be
able to reboot again and resume the installation.

That's the end of the error and I'm sure 'chkdsk /r' is to scan a Hard drive, but I don't have a Hard drive that's (R:)
I only have a (C:) that I, want to install ubuntu on without partions or formatting with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

[ubuntu] Everytime I run a software update,my system fails on rebot

I was back to 12.10 from 12.04 after a failed 12.04 update last week. A Few days ago 12.10 came out with an update. I ran the update, rebooted into an endless loop of errors AGAIN!. Every single time I run an update my OS is unbootable and I have to reformat and reinstall, start all over again. I have 7 email accounts I have to register into again, I have my bookmarks luckily backed up on my phone so I sync them back I have 5 USB sticks I put important documents on in case of an update release, I have graphics saved on old disks that lucklily I got back. But I am sick of going through the motions of reformatting

What in the world is the reason why I have to reformat every single time. This is about the 10th time I have installed ubuntu. I like the OS I was really liking 12.10 extra features before you broke it again. I don't know where to turn here. It is not once or twice or even three times. This is EVERY update, you break a perfectly working system.

Here are my specs, since they dont allow or feel the need to have it in the signature I'll post it here for you, if you see a piece of hardware that is incompatible tell me and I won't bother any one anymore. I am a self reliant person, I don't like yelling boohoo to message boards every time something goes wrong I usually fix it myself. This build is my own and has been running without problems for 2 years now. I just got done runninig memory tests and the memory is fine forget memory. I ran the CD on it all night long! ZERO errors!

Power supply: Corsair 400 Watts
CPU: Intel Core2Quad Q8400 2.66 GHz
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P Rev. 1.6 FE BIos F12
GPU: NVidia GTX 650
2 Westrern digital 500 GiB hard drives
Memory: G Skill DDR2 4 GiB

I am using the 310 driver form NVidia because the one provided with Ubuntu deos NOT provide hardware acceleration. Everything else is what you provided in your updates.

I don't want to leave Ubuntu but I am running out of hair strands.

[ubuntu] Hp not booting Ubuntu from USB pendrive

This is my first time really getting to know Linux. Im trying to setup my first duel-boot system because i'm still tied down to windows by Itunes, my iphone and photoshop(i practically live on my work in photoshop). I'm booting Ubuntu 12.10 on my HP G65 Notebook, which is pre installed with Windows 7 64 bit, from a live USB. The HP loads just fine and proceeds to try to boot Ubuntu but it freezes up on a black screen with 'syslinux 4.06 edd 2012-10-23 copyright (c) 1994-2012 H. petter Anvin et al' and a blinking bar under it at the top. I've also tried it on my HP desktop, which also has windows 7, and it skipped the USB and loaded windows instead despite the USB being first in the boot order

I'm tired of windows and I want something far more stable. And try to keep the talk on a noob understandable level.

Hey guys, I've been trying to update ubuntu in the last week and it seems that every time it tries to, it gets a few errors, the thing is that I'm not sure what the problem is, after "updating" it seems fine, but then an icon appears in the task bar like this one: (I'm not sure if this is the best way to upload a pic, srry)
Alert.png

and in Terminal I get a few of these:

Quote:

So, thanks for any help in advance.

[ubuntu] Upgrade Bug: Upgrade from 10.04 LTS to 12.04 LTS did not end gracefully

$

Hello. I used the software update manager in 10.04 LTS to upgrade to 12.04 LTS. It seemed to be going fine until it got to the clean-up phase. Either just before or just after the clean-up phase (I couldn't tell if it reached completion), the upgrade status window disappeared and was replaced by an unreadable prompt. The prompt had a red X graphic in it on the upper left, and a button on the lower right. All the text and labels were unreadable: just square blocks. I took a chance and clicked the button which caused the prompt to disappear but nothing else happened. The shutdown menu was in the "reboot required" state so I rebooted. Everything seems okay at the moment, but I've only just started to check things out. I'm a little concern about the way the upgrade ended as it appeared to abort during clean-up so I don't know if it reached a point where it should have started auto-configuring. Any suggestions? In any case, this is a bug that should be fixed.

As an aside, I'm not sure I like the new interface but I'm willing to give it a try - my immediate first impression is: great, look at all those icons, but what happened to the convenient menu to pull down my list of favourite places, the menu for all the programs, and what!?: no bar at the bottom to manage a list of open windows?!

[ubuntu] How to remove Windows 8 entirely and install Ubuntu 12.10 solely.

I have a Windows 8 laptop and I first created a Ubuntu 12.10 DVD to test it out. I liked it so much that I installed it alongside Windows 8. Can someone help me with how I can basically remove Windows 8 entirely and leave Ubuntu 12.10 running solely on the laptop? Do I have to reinstalled Ubuntu 12.10 or is there another way? Thanks!

[ubuntu] End of a first Linux adventure "Mountall: Plymouth command failed'

$

Dear all,
I need some help and I wann stress, I am a total Linux/Ubuntu Newbie.

Installed Ubuntu yesterday, My ISO image is a bit older (Ubunt 10.4), but the installation was done with web connection, I believe therefore, the actual installation is more up to date... I cant check though, since Ubuntu does not boot.

A clean installation, no parallel Win OS or anything, was successful.

The frist boot after installing however produces a halt at:
"Mountall: Plymouth command failed" (in German: "Plymouth-Befehl fehlgeschlagen")
"Mountall: No connection to plymouth'' (in German: "Keine Verbindung zu Plymouth")

The Forum is still a bit of a jungle to me. Too many shortwords which I dont understand. Nonetheless, I believe this problem might not occur the first time.
I believe I understood, that Plymouth is responsible for the start up screen and other things.
Also I read somewhere, that Nvidia Graphic Controllers tend to create trouble with Plymouth.

My computer is HP Pavillon DV5 with Nvidia Graphic Controller.

Any hints on what I could do?

Thank you so much!

[kubuntu] Kubuntu 12.10 on X120e Boot gray screen

Hey all, go easy on me if I'm making a noob mistake.

I am dual booting Win7/Kubuntu 12.10 using Grub2. All on a single drive, all partitions seem to be correct, using the 64bit version. I can boot from the USB key just fine but not from the disk after selecting Kubuntu from Grub.

After installing off of a live cd (via USB) grub was not working so I ran boot-repair selecting recommended fixes. Grub started working, I can boot to windows but not to Kubuntu. When I select Kubuntu I get a grey screen that just stays there until I power down. No progress screen appears and no sounds are played.

Am I overlooking something?

[xubuntu] GRUB Won't Find Kernel

$

I just upgraded from Xubuntu 12.10 to Ubuntu 13.04 using `sudo do-release-upgrade -d`. I accidentally turned my computer off during the upgrade process when I meant to restart xscreensaver and some other x program which the terminal-based installation prompt said I needed to halt. Anyway it seemed I had resolved everything after remounting my sda1(root) partition and entering `dpkg --configure -a` from kernel 3.8.8's recovery mode, which I selected from the grub2 menu during bootup. I installed all raring updates and fixed my /etc/apt/sources.list. Everything seemed to be working fine. `uname -r` returned 3.8.8.x...-generic, `sudo update-grub`, however only found memtest. I made a mental note of this and meant to reinstall the kernel and figure out why grub wasn't seeing it even though it was obviously in use. However, I forgot and rebooted after updating. I am now immediately taken to memtest. (Oh yeah I set the grub timer to 0 and holding shift does nothing). What can I do? Kernel 3.8.8.x...-generic is definitely on my computer somewhere.
