I upgraded from 19.10 to 20.04 and everything is working well except for the Apache webserver and phpmyadmin. After the upgrade the server would not start. i removed and reinstalled Apache2 and it is running now but it would not connect to phpmyadmin. i removed, purged and reinstalled phpmyadmin and now an unformatted page comes up on phpmyadmin that just shows php code, not the user interface. Can anyone offer suggestions for fixing this? Not sure if this is an issue with the apache configuration I have php version 3.4.0. i am running a mariadb server which seems to be fine, can see my databases, etc. Also, .php webpages in my var/www/html folder are not connecting to the database but just show the php code. Thanks

Cannot find version 14 of OpenJDK for Ubuntu 20.04
I've installed Ubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa and was trying to install the latest Java JDKs in both flavours: OpenJDK and Oracle.
However, searching via apt search gives OpenJDK (and also JRE) only up to 11th edition.
Searching on https://packages.ubuntu.com/ narrowed do focal distribution also gives results up to openjdk-11-jXX.
Switching the distribution of choice to eoan, gives all up to date versions including 14th.
I'm not asking how to enforce the installation of exactly 14th edition of OpenJDK, but rather I'm asking for the reason for this.
Is it due to any security reasons and I should also get rid of 14th Oracle version (downgrade it to 11th)?
Or just patiently wait because OpenJDK-14 need to be approved for Focal Fossa?

[SOLVED] Darktable not Tethering on Ubuntu 20.04
I just installed Ubuntu 20.04. After installing Darktable from the Ubuntu Software Store, my Canon 5D Mark II would no longer allow tethering. I was not given the option, nor was there a Scan for Devices button. It worked fine, no problems, on Ubuntu 19.10.
SO, I uninstalled Darktable, and then re-installed using the command line in a terminal window: sudo apt-get install darktable
Following that, it worked fine, and automatically detected my camera.
I believe there is a discrepancy between the command line installed software and that being offered on the Ubuntu Store. This should be checked out.

[ubuntu] I installed the boot loader to the wrong device but partially like the results
I had a PC with
Wndows on /dev/sda
Xubuntu 18.04 Desktop on /dev/sdb
I selected which to boot by switching between UEFI and Legacy boot.
I did not manage EFI boot becuase i could not get the Live 18.04 Xubuntu to EFI boot (and I wanted to leave the Windows disk untouched).
So just ran with that and used the boot mode to select the operating system.
I installed Ubuntu 20 Desktop to a memory Stick while in EFI mode.
and it booted.
What is more when booting from the memory stick in EFI mode: GRUB offered me the option Boot:
1) Ubuntu - 20 from the memory stick
2) Windows - from /dev/sda
3) Xubuntu 18.04 from /dev/sdb
It would boot all three operating system successfully via the GRUB menu on the Memory stick.
So I did a silly thing I reinstalled Ubuntu 20 to the stick BUT put the boot loader on /dev/sdb
So now I can EFI boot the second disk Xubuntu 18.04 form /dev/sdb but I must have the Memory stick present or the boot fails to the GRUB command line.
Can you help me get the it to boot EFI mode without the Memory stick present.
I want to keep the Xubuntu 18.04 on /dev/sdb and EFI boot.
I don't care about the Ubuntu 20 on the memory stick.
Thanks

[SOLVED] How to install aMule on Ubuntu 20.04
How to install aMule on Ubuntu 20.04
As people already know, aMule is no longer supported in the official Ubuntu repositories since version 20.04 LTS.
However it is possible to install aMule MANUALLY in a very simple way !! :D
aMule needs a few libraries that can be easily installed with APT. For the rest, just download the appropriate .deb files and you're done.

If necessary, according to your needs, also download one or more of the following optional packages:
amule-daemon_2.3.2-6_amd64.deb
amule-gnome-support_2.3.2-6_all.deb
amule-utils-gui_2.3.2-6_amd64.deb
- Go to the download folder and run the following commands to install the necessary libraries and DEB files:
(To avoid missing dependency errors, do it in the following order)
Code:sudo apt install -y libboost-system1.67.0 libcrypto++6 libwxbase3.0-0v5
sudo dpkg -i libwxgtk3.0-0v5_3.0.4+dfsg-12_amd64.deb

[ubuntu] 20.04 install exitied early
I just installed 20.04 using the Other option and keeping my sda1 as / and sda5 as a 70 GB partition which was my 19.10 configuration. I selected to use my previous name of sqladmin. The install first failed by turning off my Compaq 6710b laptop. I got that to work by pressing the shift key during the bios boot. OK so far. The install quit early near the end of the install and the message stated that not all files were installed but I could update them after the installation. That was good and the reboot went well. All my previous /home/sqladmin directories and files were retained. Also I mounted /dev/sda5 and all those files and directories were retained. Every thing seems to be up and running.
The packages such as postgresql, gnome-tweak-tool, and other root packages were not there so I installed them.
Which files and directories near the end of the install did not get put in place?
Thank you;
Sherman

1. Is this normal that my system still does not get the upgrade prompt (4 days into release)?

3. Is the regular (normal, non-develop) upgrade is only available once the 20.04.1 point release is ready?

[ubuntu] Sources.list problem after 19.10 to 20.04 upgrade
On upgrading from Ubuntu 19.10 to 20.04 I am unable to use Software Updater, it says "Failed to download repository information, check internet connection." I've run sudo apt update in Terminal and get error messages like:
It seems that another sources.list file is being used as there are references to other PPAs I use when running Software Updater. But there's just that file and sources.list.saved in /etc/apt/
My /etc/apt/sources.list contents are:
Where is this other file? What is happening? I've never seen this behaviour before, is it something to do with a change in the way Ubuntu deals with updates in 20.04 (as part of the move to Snap??).

[ubuntu] trying to do a late upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04
I have been slack in updating and the Software & Updates no longer offers an update beyond my last update to 14.04.
I have tried a number of the suggestions on the Forum but they are all years old and I think assume that 16.04 is the latest update. I have tried various approaches but have gotten nowhere. It seems that at this stage, there is no easy way to update from 14.04 to any of the newer releases.
Any suggestions?

[ubuntu] 20.04 desktop automated install?
At work, we generate OS images for our automated SW testing suites. Now that Ubuntu 20.04 is out, we need to get an image of that. Right now we are trying to automate the image creation through Proxmox+Packer+Ansible, but I'm having some trouble finding out how to automate the install for 20.04 desktop. For 18.04 we used the mini iso with a kickstart file, but I don't see a mini iso for 20.04. Is there a way to automate the desktop iso installer?
Thanks!
Thanks!

[server] Docker starts before networking is ready at boot
I'm trying to configure a Pi4 to run Ubuntu 18.04 and a bunch of docker containers with most of the persistent storage needed located on my nas via nfs shares. I've got everything working so far except that when I reboot the system, none of the containers with nfs volumes are able to start (/var/log/syslog shows "network is unreachable" for the container volumes). I've tried a lot of different solutions I've found and none of them seem to work. I'm a little bit new to systemd, but from what I can tell it doesn't seem to honor the networking dependencies defined. Please help!

New to Linux. Installed Ubuntu mate to replace Gnome shell.
Hello, I am new to Linux. I just downloaded Ubuntu Mate to replace Gnome Shell because my computer was lagging terribly. After using the terminal to install Mate and choosing Mate as my desktop I rebooted my computer. Now when it comes on it starts up beeps once goes to a sort of loading screen and then blacks out a few seconds after that. I have everything up to date. Ubuntu 19.10 and Gnome Shell was 3.2 or something. Being new I dont know what to do to fix this. I've read forums and tried what i've read and nothi g is helping so far. (Holding shift key, pressing esc, unplugging usb's from ports) please help!

Login Loop in Ubuntu 20.04 fresh install
Just finished installing Ubuntu 20.04. Whenever I try to log in I find myself back in the login screen after a brief flickering.
I checked and there is no Xauthority file.
When I try to startx from terminal, I get "xinit: connection to X server lost" error.
I can log in on a wayland session just fine though...

[lubuntu] 20.04.... installer failed to create a partition table on ST9160310AS...?
Previously: no problems installing Lubuntu 15.x and 17.10...
Just now, I tried to install Lubuntu 20.04 on my laptop Dell Inspiron 1545 2GB RAM 160GB memory.
I was using an .iso verified by med5sum on a USB drive: erase disk, not partitions.
It failed immediately, and I got the message in the title of this thread:
installer failed to create a partition table on ST9160310AS
Then...
Create a new partition table (type: msdos) on '/dev/sda'
Then...
Command: sfdisk /dev/sda
I have no idea what these things mean. Can anyone tell me what to do to install 20.04?

[kubuntu] No grub menu after Boot Repair
Hello guys&gals,
I'm afraid that I can't find an answer online for this situation I encountered.
Initial setup: Ubuntu 18.04, Windows 10, dual boot, grub menu with Ubuntu, Advanced, Windows as options. One Ubuntu boot partition, one root. UEFI system.
Repartitioned the drive to get rid of the separate boot partition because I hate having to clean it up all the time due to it being small.
I have restored a Kubuntu 20.04 backup (fsarchiver) from another laptop to avoid setting/installing everything from scratch. Changed partition UUID and fstab UUID and hostname.
Ran Boot Repair from a Lubuntu 18.04 usb stick.
In BIOS/UEFI I have ubuntu first, then windows, as boot options. They both run fine, I can get in both OSes via BIOS menu.
But with the "ubuntu" boot option I was expecting to be greeted by the familiar default 10 seconds waiting Grub menu, which I don't see at all.
Instead the screen is black, and after some seconds (possibly 10, but it's hard to say) Kubuntu starts. I want the grub menu back, and nothing I've tried helped. Sorry, but I can't recall all the stuff I attempted. Played around with the grub resolution, hidden timeout option etc. Nothing worked, though I may have done it wrong. To know the correct resolutions I would need access to Grub, and I don't have it.
If anybody could point me in the right direction, I would be really grateful. Thanks!

[kubuntu] Cannot install Kubuntu on VirtualBox
Hey I am trying to install Kubuntu for the first time on VirtualBox 6.1.6. I have installed Kali Linux and Windows 7 on VirtualBox with no problem but when I try to install Kubuntu 20.04, the screen turns on with the Kubuntu logo and stays like that forever. When I try to install Kubuntu 19.10, it acts as though it doesn't sense the ISO file and displays a blank screen with a blinking cursor that doesn't respond to anything. In both instances it is running with 6gb of ram, 2 cores, and 64mb of video memory. The downloads are from the official Kubuntu site. I have scoured the web and found nothing so if someone has some suggestions I would much appreciate it. My friend has dual booted Kubuntu 20.04 from the official site with no problem, just a note.

[ubuntu] 20.04 Save working configuration and make it default configuration for next boot
I installed focal fossa a week before its release, updated it. Boot issues relate to graphics card / monitor, and there are related display issues such as overlapping/corrupt graphics, unavailable processing power etc. However, intermittently the boot sequence leads to a 1024 resolution and some other configuration settings which results in a clean, working desktop environment. While I try to troubleshoot the graphics card / monitor and bios issues on this 12 year old hardware, is there a way of "freezing" the working configuration / "saving" this 'last-known good' configuration and ensure that the computer boots in the exact boot sequence that worked on this boot instance? I am on this clean desktop environment at the moment.
