Hello,
I have been using Linux for a little while now and thought it time to start having some fun with it. I am doing this with Virtualbox.
What I am attempting is to build a light desktop environment similar to Lubuntu.
I started with the Ubuntu 12.04 alternate iso and selected "Install a Command Line System"
Then I installed the following:sudo apt-get install xorg lxde-core lxdm and restarted.
Yay - I have a desktop environment I can use the terminal to install Synaptic, Firefox and whatever other programs I like.
Ok, so that is all good. Internet (ADSL) works fine. I haven't tried installing anything else yet but unless I'm missing something it should be fine.
When I am happy enough with how this is turning out, I intend to do the same on a couple of my old laptops.
I want to be able to plug usb drives into the laptops, connect the laptops to external monitors, printers etc and I want to use any proprietary graphics card drivers that are available.
I think I can install 'ndisgtk' to access wireless networks through ndiswrapper, ' cups ' to connect to printers etc. I prefer a graphical to a command line interface so was basically seeing if anyone could recommend the easiest gui to do what is in blue above.
Because I have customised this install does that mean it is a new Distro :p
So yeah, at least on Virtualbox everything seems to be going good so far
This is fun!
Cheers,
Paul
