I'm trying to install a minimal ubuntu setup onto my Asus Eee PC 701 (4G). I've downloaded the non-pae mini.iso for 12.04 and put that on a USB stick.
Installation goes fine until just after the Choose HTTP Proxy. At this point, another screen with "Downloading release files" flashes, and then the screen goes purple, with a grey bar at the bottom. Nothing more happens. I'm able to type messages in the grey bar, but they do nothing.
The hard drive activity light is off and the status light on the USB flashes about once per minute. I have left the computer for up to half an hour at a test.
I have tried:
The problem is exactly that described here, in 10.04, which was not solved.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have tried:
- Two different USB sticks - one with 128MB, the other with 8GB
- Using both wireless and LAN connections
- Choosing Install
- Choosing Install Command Line
- All combinations of the above
