I have Windows Vista/Windows Server 2008/Windows Server 2003 and Ubuntu Server 8.04 in different partitions running on my AMD laptop. In Ubuntu 8.04, I can choose to boot to any OS and boot. I tried to re-install Ubuntu Server 9.04, 10.04, 11.04, 12.04 and Ubuntu 12.10 on the same laptop, any Ubuntu versions after 8.04 will produce this error:
=======================
Invalid BOOT.ini file
Booting from C:\Windows\
NTDETECT failed
========================
If I re-installed Ubuntu Server 8.04, I could boot to Windows Server 2003 or any OS that was on the AMD computer. I want to use the latest Ubuntu Server 12.04 or 12.10 and be able to boot to any Windows OS. Does Ubuntu 8.04 use Grub and Ubuntu 9.04 and after use Grub2? Why I can see the "Earlier Version of Windows", but can not boot the OS Server 2003. How can I manually edit the boot file(s)?
