[ubuntu] Intermittent lockups

Hello. I recently purchased a laptop from best buy and upgraded the memory to 16gb and the hdd to a 128gb ssd. This is the laptop I purchased: http://us.toshiba.com/computers/lapt...0/C855D-S5303/
Before I replaced the RAM, I couldn't even install ubuntu without it crashing during the installation process. After replacing the RAM, installation went without a hitch. However, now the machine won't stay without locking up long enough to get to the desktop screen. This was a machine with the secure boot crap that was a pain to get rid of. I'm not sure if that will play into the problem or not. The memory is good, per an overnight memtest 86 test. What can I do to get the thing to boot and continue to boot without locking up?
