[ubuntu] Ubuntu Install - Mouse icon stuck but mouse can interact

Hello,

I am trying to install ubuntu 16.10, but the mouse has issues. The same issue happens when I pick "try ubuntu" instead of the install option.

Issue
The mouse icon can be visible or not (it usually shows up if I open a shell and do something), but if visible it is stuck in the top right corner. Moving the mouse around I can interact with the top bar (and the side bar in "try ubuntu"), so it looks like the icon is disconnected from the actual mouse position (but the icon changes form to show loading etc) and I have not been able to make it interact with the relevant part of the install GUI.

Already Attempted Fixes
Software - I tried all the stuff suggested here http://askubuntu.com/questions/62607...r-15-04-update and in other posts I've found (when playing with "try ubuntu", of course).
Firmware - I tried enabling vt-d in bios to no result (I have intel CPU on ASUS motherboard - very new hardware, if it can be relevant). USB legacy support is enabled.
Hardware - I tried switching mouse (two logitech G serie, one years old, one new but an old model, and a standard mouse from a minor brand). All mice are working under windows and worked under Fedora. I also tried switching between different USB ports (mobo and non mobo, USB2 and USB3).

Thanks!

P.S.
I tried installing via only keyboard but since I have a previous install of Fedora and I want to preserve the partitions (i.e. I want to save my /home partition), there is quite the bit of stuff I need to do and keyboard only is proving too troublesome.
